The Billing Program allows Medicare and other health insurance providers to be billed for ambulance transportation services through existing insurance coverage with no out-of-pocket costs for Rancho Mirage residents. The recovered costs are only those collected from the amounts that Medicare or other health insurance providers will pay and the remainder of the bill will be waived.

Rancho Mirage residents DO NOT need to register (sign up) for this program. Your resident status makes you automatically eligible for this program.

Novato Fire Protection District, an outside public agency contracted by the City, bills the insurance providers of residents who are transported by a city ambulance. After a Rancho Mirage resident is transported by a city ambulance, he/she may receive an Authorization Form pre-filled with their information along with a HIPAA notice from Cal-Fire. In accordance with HIPPA privacy regulations, this Authorization Form will only be viewed by Novato Fire Protection District to ensure the confidentiality and security of protected information. The Authorization Form allows the City to recover the portion of the cost for service covered by Medicare, Medicaid, and/or other insurance providers.

Transported residents should also expect to receive an Explanation of Benefits (EOB) from their insurance provider stating the amount of the cost for service to be covered. Please note that this is not a bill and at no point will residents receive a bill for ambulance transportation services.
