I am humbled and honored to be Mayor of the great City of Rancho Mirage. The responsibility I now hold is not taken for granted and I am fortunate to be a part of such a dedicated and unified Council during this exciting time in our City’s history. I’d like to take a moment to share my thoughts on the year ahead.
First and foremost, the City Council and I are dedicated to the continuance of prudent financial management that has served us so well. I believe the most important responsibility of our Council is to ensure the financial health of the City. This is the bedrock of any successful organization; and it is something that I take very seriously. As we move towards the build out of our fair City, every decision that we make must take into consideration the impact on future economic growth and fiscal sustainability.
I am also dedicated to maintaining the pristine maintenance of our roads, parkways, and beautiful parks that make our City so special. This can be seen firsthand with visits to the recently remodeled and expanded Rancho Mirage Community Park and its spectacular state-of-the-art Amphitheater as well as a trip to our recently opened Dog Park. I will continue the effort to explore and identify additional amenities for our residents as well as maintaining those we currently enjoy.
We already have much to celebrate as a community, with more to come. My goal is to keep you up to date on the many activities and events during the next year. This winter, the Coachella Valley’s first Observatory will open adjacent to our award-winning Library. The Rancho Mirage Observatory will provide astronomers (professionals and novices alike) an opportunity to experience, explore and learn more about our vast universe right here from the 92270 Zip Code. The City’s popular Art Affaire and Music in the Park series will be returning to our beautiful Rancho Mirage Community Park. We are also making plans for a free community holiday show in the amphitheater.
Residents and visitors will be excited to know that The Rink at The River (the valley’s first and only outdoor ice skating rink) will be returning to The River this holiday season. Speaking of The River, in addition to the new solar covered parking and other property improvements, Acqua California Bistro opened on July 27, 2017. These are just a few of the great things to come.
As your Mayor and on behalf of the Council and faithful staff, I remain resolved to committing the continuing efforts to grow the Rancho Mirage brand to its highest level.
With your support and valued input we, as your City Council, will continue to move forward together in unity, stability and leadership on a continued path of excellence. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or comments at charlest@RanchoMirageCA.gov or contact City Hall at (760) 324-4511. I look forward to hearing from and working for you.
Mayor Charles Townsend
