Regular Municipal Elections

There are five members of the City Council elected by citizens of Rancho Mirage the second Tuesday of April in even numbered years.

The next Regular Municipal Election is April 13, 2010 to elect three members to the Rancho Mirage City Council.

Notice of Nominees

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the following persons have been nominated for the offices designated to be filled at the General Municipal Election to be held in the City of Rancho Mirage on Tuesday, April 13, 2010.

Qualifications

Candidates must be residents and registered voters of the City of Rancho Mirage at the time nomination papers are issued.

Term

The term of service for a City Council Member is four years. Rancho Mirage does not impose term limits.

Fees

The City of Rancho Mirage does not charge a fee to run for office.

Nomination Period

Qualified Candidates may be issued and file nomination papers during the nomination period which is 113 to 88 days prior to the election. Candidates are nominated by not less than 20 nor more than 30 registered voters of Rancho Mirage.

At the time nomination papers are issued, candidates will be provided an informational packet which fully explains all applicable requirements.

For the April 13, 2010 Municipal Election, the Nomination Period is December 21, 2009 – January 15, 2010. Between these dates candidates may take out and file nomination papers with the City Clerk during business hours. Appointments are advised.

Declaring Candidacy

Candidates may wish to declare their candidacy prior to the official nomination period so that they may start fundraising and communicating with voters. Pursuant to the Political Reform Act, before money is raised or spent in connection with an election or candidate, the candidate (or the candidate’s committee) would be required to file intent and disclosure forms with the Secretary of State and the City Clerk.
