City Clerk
The City Clerk’s Office ensures public access to City Council meetings, including the preparation and distribution of official meeting agendas and the preparation and maintenance of official records of proceedings. The City Clerk also serves as Secretary to the Redevelopment Successor Agency, Library and Observatory Board, Community Services District Board, Housing Authority Board, and Joint Powers Financing Authority Board. The City Clerk’s Office is responsible for processing City ordinances and resolutions, coordinating the recordation of documents, and publishing legal notices. In addition, the City Clerk administers Oaths of Office, attests and seals official documents, and prepares City proclamations.
As the City’s Election Official, it is the duty of the City Clerk to conduct legal, impartial, and open municipal elections in accordance with the California Government and Elections Codes, the Rancho Mirage Municipal Code, and the Political Reform Act. The City Clerk serves as the filing officer for Campaign Disclosure Statements, Statements of Economic Interest, and other reports required by the Fair Political Practices Commission.
The City Clerk’s Office ensures that the Rancho Mirage Municipal Code is regularly updated to include newly adopted City laws and is made available to the public via the City’s website.
Commissions, boards, and committees serve as advisory bodies to the City Council; they cannot commit City resources, direct staff, or establish policy for the City. Their primary role is to increase public input and participation in the determination of City policies and operating procedures.
